February is Heart Health Month. Since heart disease is in my family history and genes and maybe be in yours too, as a holistic health editor and fitness trainer, I must discuss this important topic.

I hosted a Heart Health webinar and had Earl Britt as a guest. Earl is a Certified Clinical Researcher with a focus on Cardiovascular Disease, Cancer, and Diabetes Prevention.

This clip you’re about to hear touches on knowing your ABC, why it’s important to talk about Heart Health, two key culprits to the disease, and Life’s Simple 7 steps.

Let me add a few pointers to the clip you’re about to listen to:

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women. Here in Georgia/USA, Cardiovascular disease (CVD) accounts for more than 20,000 deaths a year. That is about 1 in 3 deaths overall 😟.

Most of these deaths are premature and preventable. This is GREAT news!!!  Each one of us has the opportunity to NOT be part of the stats. It starts by BECOMING a catalyst to others, by getting in touch with your WHY and purpose. It is about your lifestyle CHOICES–the small daily decisions. Eventually, it is about SHIFTING INTO ACTION. It’s about understanding that any ‘bad’ genes you may have, DO NOT define you. It CAN be that simple.

You can make healthy changes to lower your risk of developing heart disease. Controlling and preventing risk factors is also important for people who already have heart disease. To lower your risk:

  • Watch your weight.
  • Quit smoking and stay away from secondhand smoke.
  • Control your cholesterol and blood pressure.
  • If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation.
  • Get active and eat healthily.

I might be pushing a button by saying it can be that simple. I didn’t say it is easy but it doesn’t have to difficult either. Based on my personal experience. We are CAPABLE of accomplishing amazing things once we commit and embrace being inconvenienced.

Part of living and sustaining a lifestyle that helps our heart includes equipping ourselves with knowledge, support, and tools. Check out the CDC’s Heart Disease Quiz HERE.
